Questions

Eye exam questions

How long does an eye exam take?

Most eye exams take about 30 to 45 minutes. Plan a little extra time if you’d like to look at frames afterwards.

Is my eye exam covered by OHIP?

OHIP covers one full eye exam every 12 months if you’re 19 or under, and every 18 months if you’re 65 or over (every 12 months with certain medical conditions). If you’re 20 to 64, OHIP covers exams for certain medical conditions such as diabetes, glaucoma or cataracts. Other exams are paid at the visit, and many insurance plans reimburse them.

What should I bring?

Your Ontario health card, the glasses you wear now, your contact lens box or prescription if you wear contacts, a list of any medications, and your insurance details if you have a plan.

When should my child have their first eye exam?

Canadian optometrists recommend a first eye exam between 6 and 9 months of age, at least one between ages 2 and 5, and then once a year through the school years. Ask us about the right timing for your child.

Do you do contact lens exams and fittings?

Yes. Choose “Contact lens exam or fitting” when you book so we set aside the right amount of time.

How do I book, change or cancel?

Pick a time online and we’ll text you to confirm. Every text includes a link to change or cancel, or you can reply to the text or text us at (365) 464-5144.

I have a sudden eye problem. What should I do?

For sudden vision loss, flashes with a curtain over your vision, a chemical splash or an eye injury, go to the nearest emergency department or call 911. For red, sore or irritated eyes, book a visit and choose “Eye problem”, or text us.
